1. Mother of Mercy Region, Rio de Janeiro

The 22nd of January 2012 the "Mother of Mercy" Region (Rio de Janeiro, Brasil) celebrated its 10th year since its foundation. That day St. Elizabeth Parish in Rio de Janeiro held a solemn Eucharistic Celebration with the participation of many Pallottine Confreres and all the seminarians and postulants of the Region. During the celebration, prepared by members of the UAC, the Provincial Rector, Fr. Jarosław Chmielecki stressed the importance of recalling our history, commemorated the beginnings of the Region, and offered a view of the results already obtained and the challenges yet to be faced. He also thanked the Confreres for their commitment as they labor in the diverse situations of the Region in Brazil and in Portugal. He especially highlighted the dedication of the elder priests who years ago set our for Brazil. Finally he publically thanked the benefactors of the formation houses which survive by the generosity of their donations and shared his joy at the growth of the Union of Catholic Apostolate in the Region.

2. Codò, Brazil

In our parish of São Raimundo in Codò, Brazil, we are building a community centre called Elizabeth Sanna and a chapel dedicated to St. Vincent Pallotti. In a special meeting of City Council of Codò, and after a petition from the residents, it was unanimously decided that this new area be called after "St. Vincent Pallotti". One of the reasons for this development stems from the desire to thank the Pallottine family for the pastoral work carried out in this area for over twenty years. As we begin the 50th anniversary of the canonization of our founder, this is a great gift we can ask for. This is a good step to make St. Vincent Pallotti best known, where his ideals of the Universal Apostolate can be effectively implemented.

3. News from Nigeria

The feast of St. Vincent Pallotti was celebrated solemnly in our new mission in Nigeria by Fr. Peter Hillen together with the confreres and many members of the Union of Catholic Apostolate. One of the new initiatives in the Nigerian mission is the construction of a new Retreat Centre..

4. Symposium of the Pallotti Institute in Poland

The eighth Symposium organised by the Polish Pallottine Institute was held on the days of 26-27th November 2011 at Konstancin-Jeziorna (Poland) on the theme: Pallotti-Man. This symposium had a particular significance because it opens a series of encounters, called 'Jubilee Triptych: St Vincent Pallotti- already near' that are proposed on the 50th anniversary of the canonisation of St V. Pallotti. Three Pallottine confreres were invited to deal with the theme proposed during the November meeting. Fr Jan Kupka from Rome on the theme Family roots of Pallotti, Fr Stanislaw Zarzycki from Lublin who dealt with the theme: The personality and the human development of Vincent Pallotti, and Fr Stanislaw Stawicki of the Holy Family Region (Rwanda/Congo) who spoke of Pallotti and his acquaintances. 232 people participated at the meeting: Pallottine sisters, the Pallottine confreres from the two Polish provinces and a large number of laity. Apart from these inputs on the evening of the first day, there was a touching moment with the recital of passages from Pallotti's letters. Stanislaw Gorka, a Polish actor, accompanied by three musicians, read some letters chosen deliberately to show the human dimension of Pallotti. In the next two encounters of the Jubilee Triptych, they propose their reflections on the themes of Pallotti- Priest (14-15 April 2012) and Pallotti- Saint (27-28 October 2012). The Institute Pallotti of Konstancin-Jeziorna in Poland (Warsaw Province) is made up of Fr Mariusz Malkiewicz SAC (Director) and Sr Monika Cecot SAC. 5. The first Colombian Pallottine priest

On November 19, 2011 in Medellin, Colombia, Diego Andrés Herrera Gutiérrez, the first Colombian Pallottine priest, was ordained. The Delegature of the Christ the King Province in Colombia/Venezuela is present in those countries for 13 years and this first ordination is a reason for great joy for the whole Pallottine family. The Provincial Rector, Fr. Józef Lasak, and the Provincial Mission Secretary, Fr. Grzegorz Mlodawski, were present for the ordination. PHOTO

6. Provincial Assembly of the Swiss Province 'St Nich. of Flue'

The Provincial Assembly of the Swiss Province 'St Nicholas of Flue' took place on November 14th, 2011 in Gossau, Switzerland. Twelve of the sixteen members participated. The approved agenda contained various reports, projects and accounts for the future. The Swiss Province, despite having few members, again offers pastoral services to Parishes and develops a wide apostolic activity: from the parishes to theological and spiritual formation; from the administration of the editing of the Ferment magazine; from the obligations ad intra of our community to those ad extra in the Union of the Catholic Apostolate, in Switzerland. The Secretary for the Missions, Fr Erich Schadler, presented a list of more than fifteen missionary projects, supported from October 2010 to September 2011. New initiatives of collaboration have been realised. After the arrival of Fr Ferdinand Franco (BA) in August 2011, two young Indian confreres from the Nagpur Province will arrive in the month of November. The decision of the participants of the Provincial Assembly to invest straight away in new projects of construction and renovation at Morschach (house, chapel, cemetery) expresses not only the disposition to journey, to take new steps forward, but also a strong and living hope.

7. Provincial Assembly of the Austro-German Province (CJ)

From October 24th-28th, the Provincial Assembly of the Austro-German Province was held in the major Seminary at Vallendar. The Rector and the delegates of the local communities took part along with the Regional Rector of Cameroon, the Provincial Delegates of Spain, Croatia and South Africa. In his annual report the Provincial Fr Hans-Peter Becker pointed out the main challenges for the forthcoming years and what responses one may need to give to the changes in the Province itself, in the Church or in German society. Moreover, the Provincial Council presented a concept for the apostolate of the Province as a starting point for a reflection and a more thorough discussion in the local communities. (Synodal process) M Manus represented the General Council. As always during the assembly there moments of fraternity and a trip to the island of Niederweth on the River Rhine, near Vallendar.

8. Pilgrimage to Rome of a group of Polish Pallottine priests

On their 25th year of Ordination on May 10th 1986 a group of Polish Pallottine priests coming from various countries made a pilgrimage to Rome in the month of September 2011. The programme of their stay was composed of personal and communal, spiritual and cultural events: a day on Pallotti under the direction of Fr Jan Kupka, a trip to Frascati, a Holy Mass above the mortal remains of Saint Vincent Pallotti, with the Rector General Fr Jacob Nampudakam and a festive lunch at the Generalate. According to the accounts of the participants this extraordinary brotherly meeting has reinforced all in their Pallottine vocation and in their following of Christ.

9. Ongoing Pallottine formation in Poland

"So as not to turn back but to live ever more perfectly the Life of Our Lord Jesus Christ", Vincent proposed to the members of his congregation a month long Directorate every five years (Ratio Institutionis, 51). On July 2nd in the Centre of Missionary Formation in Konstancin, Poland, this "privileged time" of ongoing Pallottine formation concluded. More than 80 Polish confreres who made their perpetual consecration during the years 1991-1994 participated in the Directorate. For two weeks they dealt with strictly Pallottine themes: the UAC, the apostolic activity of the Society and the spirituality of Saint Vincent Pallotti. They also looked at issues and problems encountered in carrying out their own ministries and in the deepening of their spiritual life. The aggiornamento also included the world of the mass media thanks to the presence of distinguished guests who work in this field. PHOTO

10. Meeting of the two Prov. Councils of the German language

The traditional meeting of the two Provincial Councils of the German language – the "S. Nicola di Flüe" Province (CH) and the "Sacred Heart" Province (CJ) – took place from May 3rd to 4th 2011 in Gossau, Switzerland. This meeting is useful for the exchange of information, ideas and views regarding new projects and reciprocal collaboration. This year discussions focussed principally on the preparations for the European Continental Meeting in Freising from May 23rd to 27th 2011 and the preparations for the 50th anniversary of the canonisation of Pallotti in 2013. Both Provinces have already planned very interesting projects. Among the challenges which the two Provinces must face are the seeking of specific new fields of apostolate and vocation promotion in a world which is changing.
